God asks the Church to be a community of people sharing a common purpose and fellowship, continually growing in faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God.  Paul describes the Church as "His Body, the fullness of Him who fills every thing in every way" (Ephesians 1:22).  God calls every member of the Church into ministry, gifted by the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:11,12).  An Elder, like any other Church Officer, is a ministering servant of God, called to serve the Church and the Community.

A local Elder works in close relationship with the Pastor of the Church and reports to the Pastor and the Church Board.  He or she is a member of the Church Board and is assigned to one or more ministries of the local Church.  As an extension of the Pastor, the ministry of the Elder is vital to a caring Church.

The duties of the Elder include the following:  Visitation and Nurture of Members;  Committed to Evangelism and reaching new potential members; Committed to Community;  A Spiritual Mentor; Inspiring Leadership.
